How can we help?

Answers to the questions we get most, and how to reach a person when they’re not enough.

Questions and answers

Is KerbAlert free?

Yes. Reporting, alerts, watches and the live map are free. Guardian, which adds phone calls and texts for urgent alerts, will be an optional paid extra when it launches.

How do I get alerts about my car?

Add your number plate in the app. Whenever someone reports something involving that plate, you get a notification. You can add more than one vehicle, cars and motorbikes alike, and turn different kinds of notification on or off in Settings.

Someone else has already registered my plate. What now?

Add the car anyway. KerbAlert asks the current owner to confirm, so a plate can move to its new owner when a car is sold, without either of you seeing the other’s details.

How is a report checked?

Every report needs a real photo taken in the app, with the time and place it was taken. There are no exceptions. Other members who saw the same thing can confirm it with the hazard icon.

Why are parts of report photos blurred?

Before a photo is uploaded, KerbAlert finds faces and number plates on your phone and blurs them. You can check the result and blur anything else before sending. Only the owner of the car sees the photo without blurring.

What if a report is offensive or fake?

Open it and tap “Report This Report”. Once three different members report the same one, it’s taken down automatically while it’s reviewed. False reports also lower the reporter’s trust score.

Can I stop seeing someone’s reports?

Yes. You can block whoever made a report or a watch request. Their posts disappear for you, they can’t offer to watch your car, and neither of you is told.

Can I delete a report I made?

Yes. Open it from Your Reports in Settings, or from Home, and tap “Take Down Report”. It disappears for everyone straight away.

Can the person who reported my car see who I am?

No. The reporter isn’t told who owns the car, and the owner isn’t told who made the report.

Will my name show on my reports?

Not unless you want it to. Reports say “Anonymous” by default. You can choose a username and turn on Show My Username on Reports in Settings. Even then, the owner of a car you report never sees it, and neither does anyone you’ve blocked.

How does paying for parking work?

The sign or machine by your car says which parking app to use and the location code to type in. Tap Pay for Parking in KerbAlert to open that app, pay there, then come back and KerbAlert offers to set your timer. KerbAlert doesn’t take the payment or see your card details.

How long do reports stay up?

On the live map, warden sightings show for 12 hours and everything else for two days. You can look further back with the time picker on the map. All reports and their photos are deleted after 90 days.

I’m not getting alerts.

Check that notifications are allowed for KerbAlert in your phone’s settings, that your plate is added correctly in the app, and that you’re signed in. If it still isn’t working, email us and tell us which phone you have.

Is KerbAlert an emergency service?

No. If someone is in danger or a crime is happening, call 999. For anything else the police need to know, call 101.

Report a problem

For anything in the app, the quickest way is to open the report or watch and use the options there. For anything else, including a safety concern or a bug, email support@kerbalert.co.uk. It helps if you tell us:

  • what happened, and when;
  • which phone you’re using;
  • a screenshot, if you have one. Please don’t send us anyone else’s personal details.

Police and legal requests

We’ll respond to valid legal requests from the police and other authorities. Email support@kerbalert.co.uk with the subject line “Legal request”. Reports and their photos are deleted after 90 days, so we may not have what you’re looking for after that.
